Mix of hand-made facing bricks combines peace and liveliness
New Sint-Antonius residential care facility in Brussels South
Sint-Antonius is a residential care facility situated in the centre of the quiet village of Sint-Pieters-Leeuw.
It combines the large scale of a local care facility with the character of a residential district near to the city within this undulating park-like green municipality to the south of Brussels.
The complex comprises 119 residential units, 5 short-stay units, a day centre with 14 residential units and 25 serviced flats.
A central axis known as the 'street' links the residential buildings and the support and administrative services.
While the building provides the ideal "collective" accommodation, the idea is that residents do not feel like they are living in an "institution".
Abscis Architecten chose a mix of Hand-Made facing bricks including Miniature Brown Grey, Black Brown, Red Brown and Yellow Brown for the façade cladding.
This colour pallet creates a natural and warm look and provides residents with a pleasant view from their rooms.
The playful and lively character is emphasised by the small face of the bricks. This format, in conjunction with the mix chosen, creates a colourful mosaic pattern that matches the landscape and nature perfectly all year round.
